Leclerc Nilus II Floor Loom

The Nilus II is an updated version of the popular Leclerc Nilus. It features larger heddles for cleaner sheds and a deeper frame to make treadling easier when weaving under high tension. The Nilus II 4-shaft loom is available in two versions- Jack or counterbalance.
The Nilus II loom has been designed with a stabilizer foot, for better stability. The shed is always good with any tie-up combination. The counter-balanced version is built with an integrated shed regulator, so it is possible to weave any kind of material. On the jack-type version, the top can be easily removed, allowing easy access to the shafts for the addition or removal of heddles. Heddles used are 12½" (31.7 cm) long. It is a loom with independent shafts, guided by pegs at each side, preventing friction of the frames which are pushed upwards by an underneath mechanism.
All Nilus II looms have non-sliding polyvinyl foot pads under the uprights to keep it solid on the floor. They are equipped with a friction brake giving perfect tension every time. The front cloth beam and back thread beam are removable for easy threading, and the warp beam is also removeable for outside beaming when required. All looms are equipped with a regular plain beam to which a set of rake-like pieces can be added to convert it into a sectional warp beam.
The Nilus II comes with:
- 6 treadles
- 1 boat shuttle 11¾"
- 1 doz. plastic bobbins
- 1 reed & heddle hook
- 2 lease sticks
- 4 warp rods
- 2 cords
- 2 aprons
- Book: "Warp and Weave"

Counterbalance Version
The Nilus II Counterbalance loom is similar to the Fanny II loom but with a higher front beam (34 1/2 vs the Fanny's 31 1/4 inch) making it more comfortable to use for taller weavers. Like the Fanny II, the Nilus II Counterbalance comes with an integrated Shed Regulator eliminating problems sometimes experienced with unbalanced tie-ups. The loom also has a folding leg at the back to increase the looms footprint and stability. The loom has 4 shafts and 6 treadles and can be converted to the 8 shaft Jack BHT version at a later date if needs change.
The special 72 inch version of the Nilus II Counterbalance model comes with two brake systems and 2 sets of treadles to allow a pair of weavers to operate the loom.
Countermarch Version
The Nilus II Countermarch loom uses an Enhanced Parallel Countermarch design with a unique wire cable system to connect the lamms and the harnesses. The use of cables removes the problem of cords jumping off of pulleys found in conventional Parallel Countermarch looms.
Leclerc's use of full shaft frames on their floor looms rather than the simple heddle bars found on conventional Countermarch looms allows for a much better tensioning system making the loom easier to warp and more reliable in operation.
Shaft frames also allow Leclerc to eliminate a complete set of lamms as only one set is required to lift the harnesses. Only using one set of lamms reduces the complexity under the loom, makes tie-ups easier and reduces the chance of tie-up mistakes.
The Nilus II Countermarch loom comes with 8 shafts and the Leclerc Back-Hinge Treadling System for very easy treadling.
Jack Version
The Nilus II Jack loom is available in 4 and 8 shaft configurations with a Back-Hinge Treadle option for the 8 shaft version. The 4 shaft model can be upgraded to an 8 shaft with or without Back-Hinge Treadles and a 4+4 version of the 4 shaft is also available that reduces the upgrade cost by using the 8 shaft loom's wider castle. The loom uses a conventional system of Jacks and Lamms and produces a very large shed. The 4 shaft Jack can also be converted into the 4 Shaft Counterbalance loom model.
The front beam of the Nilus II has a height of 34 1/2 inches. Weavers who are more comfortable with a lower front beam can order the Nilus model Jack loom in the same front or Back-Hinge Treadle combinations.
