APRIL 2024 // SAKURA SEASON
Every spring, we celebrate “cherry blossom” season. This is inspired by the Japanese tradition of hanami, the Japanese term for flower viewing. Both Vancouver (where the studio is) and Richmond (where I live) planted cherry trees many decades ago and host Cherry Blossom Festivals throughout the month of April each year.
The underlying meaning tied to cherry blossoms is the idea that life is fleeting. The brilliant display of flowers signals spring and new life, but the flowering time is very short and reminds us that life is also short.
The theme of cherry blossom, sakura, and hanami is one that has captured me over and over again. We’ve already designed multiple colourways inspired by these delicate pink flowers — colourways that celebrate the delicate and fragile nature of cherry blossoms and colourways that celebrate the transition of deep pink buds to pale pink petals. I love the challenge of looking at one idea from different perspectives.

- needles: Size 5 US / 3.75 mm circular needles, 24" / 60 cm long for the body
- finished measurements: Chest: 32 (36, 39 ¾, 44, 47 ¾, 52, 56)" / 81.5 (91.5, 101, 112, 121.5,132, 142) cm
