Our Products

Our yarns and fibres are dyed in limited edition colourways. No two skeins are ever exactly alike and often, colourways are impossible to replicate. When working with more than one skein of the same colourway, we suggest that you work from two balls at a time to keep the colour even.

SweetGeorgia hand-dyed yarns are dyed in vibrant, brilliant candy colours using a variety of professional acid dyes. Sometimes the yarns are re-skeined to mix up the colours so that the skein is more representative of what the final knitted item might look like.

SweetGeorgia handspun yarns start as hand-dyed fibres and are spun on a Schacht Matchless DT or Ashford Joy spinning wheels. Finished skeins are washed with hot water and Eucalan to set the twist. Despite SweetGeorgia’s obsessiveness, our handspun yarns are not meant to be Martha-”perfect”-like commercial yarns. Each handspun yarn is unique with a personality of its own and cannot be reproduced.

Yarns and fibres in the Supernatural SweetGeorgia collection are hand-dyed in natural and plant dyes. On silk and wool fibres, we use alum for mordanting. For cotton and other cellulose fibres, we use tannin (derived from oak galls) and alum for mordanting. Iron is used to overdye. Our natural dyes are from Earthues and Maiwa Handprints.

Caring for your yarns
Items made from our yarns and fibres may be gently handwashed separately and laid flat to dry. Superwash yarns and fibres may be gently machine washed separately. To prevent felting, avoid extreme temperature changes when you wash wool yarns and fibres. In general with wool, silk and other protein fibres, avoid high alkali soaps and detergents as it damages the yarn and causes it to lose its luster and sheen. Eucalan and Soak wool wash are lovely for wool. A light vinegar rinse will encourage the “scrunchiness” or “scrope” in silk yarns.
